When it comes to diaper changing,
Safety First!

Wash your hands.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water. Be sure to rinse thoroughly, as you don't want soap residue irritating the baby's skin. You may also use hand sanitizer, it usually contains aloe and vitamin E, however the alcohol content may irritate the baby's skin.

Find a clean safe area to change the diaper.

  • Lay blanket on the floor. The floor is free, and unlike a baby stand or table, a baby will never fall off the floor. In addition, always keep at least one hand on the baby. Don't ever turn your back to the baby. This will make both you and the baby more secure.

  • If you must use a changing table because you don't want to crouch, kneel, or bend. Waist height is ideal, and make sure that you never turn your back to the baby and that you keep at least one hand on the baby. All it takes is a split second for the baby to fall off the table.
